The French School of Melbourne was born in 1998 from the desire that a bilingual and bicultural community had to offer their children education both Australian and French.
EFM programs are integrated into Australian schools and are endorsed by the Department of Education and Training in Victoria (DET), the French Ministry of Education (Enseignement du Français à l’Etranger AEFE), from kindergarten to Grade 6.
The EFM’s charter is to support the teaching of the French curriculum in Melbourne: create, make accessible, develop and promote French education. The EFM includes:
- Melbourne Kindergarten.
- The French Primary section of Caulfield Junior College (CJC)
- Extracurricular activities in French (CJC)
More than 80% of the pupils are Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents (settled permanently in Australia) and majority belong to binational families. 15% of the pupils come from French expatriate families. About 300 children are in primary and 40 in kindergarten.
